First I want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and say I hope you have a delicious day!
I’m sure you’re busy today so I’ll put together a short list.
If you don’t make a big deal about what you’re eating no one else will likely notice.
Friends and family are often the least supportive because they know what you used to eat.
Do you have to be 100% carnivore today?
That depends on you. How does your body tolerate plant foods? That’s your answer.
Is it ok to splurge? Yes. It’s one day.
When I began this journey I went paleo, autoimmune paleo, keto, and then carnivore. That was 10 years ago and I was much more sensitive to a number of foods. Dairy, wheat, nightshades, and chicken were a hard pass for a number of years. But the more I’ve stuck to carnivore foods the more my gut has healed and I tolerate those foods better now.
Try to opt for splurges that are worth it. Grandma’s homemade pie vs a Costco pie. One will likely have better ingredients but not always.
Try to find non-food activities.
If you know someone will get fired up about your meaty lifestyle and/or you anticipate a brow beating about your cholesterol try to steer the meeting to games or an outdoor activity.
What Is Jen Eating Today?
Turkey
Gravy
Mashed potatoes with lots of heavy cream and butter
Gordon Ramsay’s cranberry sauce (If Christmas had a taste this would be it.)
Rye bread stuffing (My ancestors who most recently immigrated (4 generations ago) were from Germany. Growing up in Cincinnati (a large German population) I ate a lot of rye bread, sausages, mustard, vinegar, and German potato salad. It doesn’t feel like Thanksgiving without rye bread stuffing. I bought a loaf from a local bakery - Gastons - that uses quality ingredients.
Pumpkin pecan pie - homemade
Thank you for being here. Wishing you and your loved ones a peaceful holiday season.
